Maxine Verdun Burden, age 79, a native and resident of Verdunville, LA passed Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 12:30 AM at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be observed on Saturday, July 14, 2018 from 9:00 AM until a rosary being recited at 10:00 AM at the St Jules Catholic Church in Franklin, LA. Tributes will follow the recitation of the rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow mass services in the St. Joseph Mausoleum in Centerville, LA.
Maxine Verdun Burden was born September 20, 1938 in Verdunville, LA. to Wilfred and Ruby Verdun. She was baptized at an early age. She was a member of St. Jules Catholic Church of Franklin, LA. Maxine prayed the rosary daily and she included everyone in her prayers. She prayed the rosary so often that she often jokingly said “Oh no, Mary is sick of me.”
She raised her nephew, Willie Vallet, Jr. as her son since his early age of 5 years old, after the sudden passing of her sister, Eleanor Vallet.
Maxine was well known and loved by many people in the community. She enjoyed cooking. She worked at her Uncle Garret’s Barbeque Pit in Orange, Texas at an early age. She also worked as a cook at the popular Rose Club in Verdunville, LA and Joe’s Café in Franklin, LA as well as the residence of Prescott Foster for many years before retiring.
Maxine was known for saying exactly what was on her mind. Her favorite demanding phrases were, “No Ma’am!” and “No, Sir!” which would always cause laughter by so many who waited to hear her forcefully say the words. Maxine nickname was “Mrs. Chancellor”. She enjoyed playing the Louisiana Lottery Starch-off tickets and bingo. Schartoe, the dog was her beloved pet. Her favorite book which she often read was for her late grandson, Brian, “First Communion Book”.
She will forever be remembered by her son, Willie Vallet, Jr., of Verdunville, LA; her grandsons, Caleb and Tylin Vallet of Dallas, Texas. Her sisters, Janis (Jesse) V. Jones, Elodia V. Navy and Catherine Verdun of Verdunville, LA, brothers Wilfred Verdun of Baker Town, LA and Delanor Verdun of Verdunville, LA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Eleanor V. Vallet and Christine V. Green, her brother Roy Walker and grandson Brian Vallet.
