Cat, as she was affectionately called, touched many lives. She was baptized at Pilgrim Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. W. Young, where she served until her death. Cat had a spiritual gift of singing. She was steadfast and unmovable in her service to the Lord.

Cat served her church and community diligently. She was not just a member of the church or just a resident in the community; she was a "matriarch," a woman who was powerful within her family, organization, and community. Cat served in many positions in the church, which included Senior Choir President for 20 years, Women's Auxiliary Missionary Parliamentarian, Prayer-Band Leader, reorganized the Junior Choir, which included many of her grandchildren, Beautification and Welcome Committee, and wherever else she was needed in the church.

Cat LOVED family, and that love flowed out to everyone she met. Gathering and celebrating traditions, such as holidays, birthdays, and Sunday dinners, was the center of her joy. On birthdays, everyone would receive a personal serenade. She especially enjoyed birthday lunches with her sisters. She was known for her special "fried bread" and her "sweet tea." And let us not forget her New Orleans Saints Super Sundays.

Cat leaves to cherish her precious memories and carry on her legacy, her eight children:  Adrian (John) Daye, Karen Michelle Marshall, Leonard (Tracy) Allen, Verna Sharese Allen, Marva Chantel Allen, Sylvia Janell Allen, Leslie (Kourtney) Calloway, and Anthony (Theressa) Bourgeois Jr.; one stepson, Leo G. Mingo Jr.; four sisters, Diana Wells, Deborah (Hendry) Johnson, Gale Thomas, and Ruby (Charles) Maize; godmother, Betty Pierce; one aunt, Eleanor Griffin; one godchild, Joan Grant; twenty-three grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a loving sister-friend, Vera Cleary; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Cat was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Mingo; her parents, Lionel and Verna Granger; two brothers, Lionel and Harry Granger; one sister, Patty Granger; and godchildren, Keisha Brown and Eric Howard.
